Meet John Doctor

John Doctor and his wife Carol moved to Treasure Island in 2008 when he was promoted and transferred to St. Petersburg as the Senior Vice President of Operations for Bright House Networks. Carol began working as a fifth-grade teacher at Jamerson Elementary School in St. Petersburg for Pinellas County Schools.

In 2019, Carol retired in January, and four months later, John followed suit after Spectrum acquired Bright House Networks. Retirement, however, was not what John expected. After 35 years of working, he found himself eager to stay active and contribute to the community. In 2020, he joined the Sons of the American Legion and the Gulf Beaches Rotary Club. Later that year, when the City of Treasure Island announced open positions for the 2021 municipal elections, John was intrigued by the opportunity to serve. With a passion for Treasure Island, he was excited to use his expertise to reinvigorate the downtown and John’s Pass business districts.

As a commissioner, John learned about several critical infrastructure projects in progress, including the Master Lift Station, sea wall improvements, and the new Safety Building for Fire and Police services. As Mayor, John’s first priority is ensuring residents can get back into their homes following Hurricanes Helen and Milton.
